Three days later, Shen Yifeng came to the Qiao mansion. Not to visit Miaomiao as usual, but with a file on a disputed investment between the two families.

In the original story, this was Miaomiao’s chance to show off her gentle thoughtfulness, while Qiao Rong, consumed by jealousy, wrecked the dinner and earned Shen Yifeng’s deep dislike. But Wanzhao had no intention of replaying that villain’s role.

She sat reading in a corner of the room, apparently studying the quarterly financial report of the family company, something “the original owner” had never touched. When Shen Yifeng walked past, his eyes happened to land on the page she was reading.

“The Second Miss is interested in shares of the textile company?” he asked, with a probing edge in his voice.

“Not interested,” Wanzhao said, closing the report. “Puzzled. This quarter’s losses at my family’s textile company line up strangely well with the moment the Shen Group raised its purchase price for raw cloth. Don’t you think that’s a coincidence worth looking into, Mr. Shen?”

Shen Yifeng stopped. Even his own finance team had only discovered that detail last week, and it was still being kept quiet.

“Do you read financial reports for fun, Miss?” he asked, and this time his gaze had changed.

“I read them to understand where I stand in this game,” she replied, not avoiding his eyes. “You must know, Mr. Shen, that in the Qiao family, not everyone wants to sit quietly while other people decide their fate.”

She stood, bowed politely, and left, leaving Shen Yifeng standing frozen in the middle of the drawing room, seeing “the Qiao family’s second daughter” through completely different eyes for the first time.
