Chapter 2: The Distance Between Them
by HaOn her first day at work, Hạ Vy discovered that Cố Thừa Phong was a man of extremely strict principles.
Documents had to be filed in order.
Meeting schedules had to be accurate to the minute.
Emails had to be answered the same day.
But what puzzled her most was that he always remembered the tiniest things about her.
She liked her coffee with very little sugar.
She didn’t like the air conditioning too cold.
She always arrived ten minutes early in the morning.
Once, Hạ Vy asked offhandedly:
“Why do you remember all this?”
Thừa Phong answered calmly:
“Because you’re my assistant.”
It was a reasonable answer.
But somehow she still felt something didn’t add up.
Little by little, they grew close.
Thừa Phong didn’t talk much. Hạ Vy talked a lot.
One loved quiet. The other always filled the office with laughter.
Their differences didn’t drive them apart.
Instead, they created a strange kind of balance.
Until Hạ Vy received a job offer from another company.
A higher salary.
A better position.
She began to waver.
Thừa Phong knew, but he didn’t try to stop her.
He only asked:
“Do you want to go?”
“Maybe.”
“Then go.”
Hạ Vy looked at him.
“You’re not going to ask me to stay?”
He was silent.
“Do you want me to?”
She didn’t answer.
That day, for the first time, the two of them kept their distance.
