Chapter 2: Changing Fate
by HaSu Wanzhi sat bolt upright, her heart pounding like a war drum. She rushed to the mirror and looked at her own twenty-two-year-old face, still untouched by the knives in the back of her past life.
“Very well,” she told herself, a cold smile curling her lips. “In this life, everyone reaps what they sow.”
The first thing she did wasn’t to take revenge right away. Instead, she quietly wrote down every event that would happen over the next three years. Shares in Huarong Entertainment, the company she was about to sign with, would skyrocket after the blockbuster Moonlight. Her rival, Lin Xiaomeng, was currently a lowly assistant to a B-list director and hadn’t even met Zhou Yifan yet. And that man Zhou was still an unknown financial investor who would only rise three years from now, thanks to the very money Wanzhi had foolishly poured into him in her past life.
This time, she decided not to invest a single cent in Zhou Yifan’s company.
Instead, she quietly bought small stakes in Huarong Entertainment while the price was still dirt cheap, and at the same time applied to audition for the female lead in Moonlight, the film in which, in her past life, she had only played a supporting role, because Xiaomeng had sabotaged her and stolen the lead at the last minute with a staged “slept with the director” scandal.
This time, Wanzhi had a hidden camera ready at the audition.
Sure enough, just as in her past life, a director’s assistant named Lin Xiaomeng deliberately led her into Director Zhong’s private room at midnight, setting a trap to take compromising photos and blackmail her into giving up the role.
But this time, Wanzhi was already waiting outside the door with her camera. Ten minutes earlier, she had recorded the entire conversation in which Xiaomeng plotted with her accomplice in the restroom.
“Ms. Lin,” Wanzhi said, stepping out of the shadows of the corridor, her voice ice cold, “would you like to watch this footage before you post it online yourself?”
Xiaomeng’s face went as white as paper.
