Chapter 4: Enter the Third Party
by HaThings got complicated when Lâm Khả Ái, Thành Đạt’s cousin and his rival for the inheritance, began to notice something odd about his relationship with Diệu My. Suspicious and scheming by nature, Khả Ái investigated quietly and discovered that until three months ago, the two of them had barely been in touch.
At the same time, Trần Quốc Huy, Diệu My’s ex-boyfriend, who had cheated on her to chase a richer girl, suddenly came back looking for her, claiming he wanted to “rekindle the old flame.” It only made everything messier.
At a company party, Quốc Huy deliberately approached Diệu My right in front of Thành Đạt and threw an arm around her shoulders just to provoke him. Diệu My tried to keep her distance, but the moment was unavoidably awkward.
Even though Thành Đạt knew perfectly well this was only a “contract,” he felt a wave of unreasonable anger rise inside him at the sight. He walked over, slipped his arm around Diệu My’s shoulders as if it were the most natural thing in the world, and said coolly, “Excuse us. My girlfriend has to leave.”
Once they were outside, Diệu My looked at him in surprise. “Are you jealous?”
“No,” Đạt answered a little too fast. He was quiet for a moment before he went on, more softly, “Or maybe I am. I don’t like seeing you stand next to someone who hurt you.”
That same night, Lâm Khả Ái found Diệu My alone and warned her bluntly: “I know you two aren’t really in love. If you don’t want this blowing up in front of Grandmother, you’d better back out before I make a move.”
Diệu My stood frozen at the threat, her mind in turmoil. She realized things had gone far beyond anything their “contract” could control.
