Chapter 6: Tomorrow, We’ll Still Love Each Other
by HaThree years later.
An autumn morning.
Anran stood in front of the mirror, adjusting her hair.
The silver hair clip was still there.
Kai came in.
“Ready?”
“Ready.”
“Nervous?”
“A little.”
Today was the opening of Anran’s own design studio.
She had once thought she would have to choose between love and her career.
But Kai had never made her choose.
He had only stood beside her.
And let her walk on her own.
Anran looked at him.
“Thank you.”
“For what?”
“For waiting for me.”
Kai shook his head.
“No.”
“Then for what?”
“For coming back.”
She laughed.
“This time I’m not leaving again.”
Kai looked at her.
“I don’t need you to promise.”
“Why not?”
“Because we understand each other now.”
He reached out and straightened the clip in her hair.
“All I need is that tomorrow, when you wake up, you still want to be with me.”
Anran looked at him.
“Tomorrow.”
“Yes.”
“And the day after.”
“Yes.”
“And all the days after that?”
Kai smiled.
“Those too.”
Outside the window, the first light of day spread over the city.
Eight years apart had once made them think love could fade with time.
But after everything, they realized that what mattered wasn’t how long they had been apart.
It was that when they had the chance to choose again, they both still chose each other.
Anran took Kai’s hand.
“Lin Kai.”
“Hm?”
“What if tomorrow we get old?”
He laughed.
“Then I’ll still make you tea.”
“What if I don’t like it anymore?”
“I’ll switch to another kind.”
“What if I get grumpier?”
“I’ll get more patient.”
“What if I forget you?”
Kai looked at her for a long time.
“Then I’ll tell you our story.”
“What story?”
“The story of two people who missed each other for eight years.”
“And then?”
“And then, in the end, they still found their way back to each other.”
Anran rested her head on his shoulder.
She didn’t know how much the future would change.
Or where life would take them.
But she knew one thing.
True love isn’t never being apart.
It’s that after every time you lose each other, you’re both still sincere enough to walk back toward each other.
Outside, the city was beginning a new day.
Kai took Anran’s hand and walked out of the room.
No one knew what tomorrow would bring.
But they knew this:
If tomorrow there’s still one look left for each other, they’ll still choose to love each other.
